about

'Wake Up Children' is a remixtape sourced from 'Dance the Dance Electric,' the 2004 debut from Nick Harte's the Shocking Pinks -- an album that quickly landed the band on Flying Nun and later on DFA. The selection here is from a diverse cast of all New Zealand producers. Some of the names may be as much news to you as they were to us, but k2k has previously featured on Crash Symbols, while James Grant (Abstract Mutation, et al) is probably recognizable to anyone that's given NZ music or the international tape scene much attention lately. All are great names to watch.

"...we present for you Melbourne based New Zealand fuzzy acid house/techno producer Abstract Mutation's remix of 'Lovehate' by Shocking Pinks. The last time Dummy covered Abstract Mutation was when he released his Fake Keygen album on 1080p Collection. With his remix, Abstract Mutation slices 'Lovehate' into tiny slivers. Letting these fragments stutter on the intro, he gradually teases them out into time-stretched tones, while building a punchy mid-tempo beat collage in their midst." -Dummy

"Two of New Zealand's best have clashed in fine fashion, with young visionary Totems bringing hectic nostalgia to Shocking Pinks with 'PeaceoutIceEFGH.' Of course it goes for four minutes and twenty seconds." -Thump

"...astonishingly good." -The Answer Is In The Beat
