about

"The time of the long, snowy, frosty Russian winters, when there is no way to just walk along in the frozen but still vibrant and beautiful city. You can only run, gritting your teeth from the cold, wrapping your face in a scarf, freezing for a moment on the embankment to admire the blocks of crystal that cover the river. Hundreds of thousands of little icebergs, crashing into each other.

You run further, crossing squares and canals, marveling for the thousandth time at the architecture and beauty, the mystical atmosphere of the deserted night streets, mentally greeting their eternal inhabitants: the stone lions, sphinxes, horses, Atlanteans, angels and chimeras. I'm running to catch the last bridge, to get from the mainland to the island, to where my house is.

If I am late and they split the bridge, then I stay on the other side, until the early morning. When this happens I go to the nearest bar, warm myself in a corner, then take out a notebook and write. Something of its own, something natural. Into a white void."

-Galina Ozeran, St.Petersburg (2012)

"The synth music of producer Galina Ozeran sounds like it travelled far across time and space to reach your ears. On Something Natural, it takes the form of far-reaching kosmiche, chilly ambience, space-age classical, and ‘80s synth pop. Ozeran makes each track feel like a distinct world, from the immensely beautiful Badalamenti-style opener “Тема дома” and the hypnotically pulsing “Time Tunnel” to the unexpected shift into post-punk in the second half with tracks like “Progressive Class.” It’s an album as surprising as it is rewarding." -The Acid Test

"A romantic and haunting record . . . like a pastel version of dungeon synth or a dime store Twin Peaks soundtrack." -Bandcamp Daily

"Somewhere between new wave, folk, psychedelic and avant-garde sounds, Chikiss makes the most of every second..." -Take Effect

"Something Natural is a journey through old towns with dilapidated structures, adjacent to a warm living world of kind hearts and thoughtfulness." -Lost in a Sea of Sound
