about

Guyer's Connection began recording as a duo in 1982, shortly before the then teen-aged core duo Tibor Csebits and Philippe Alioth gained their first following on the strength of a self-produced debut in '83 ('Portrait,' reissued in 2014 by Minimal Wave). Rediscovered by Alioth in his 4-track archives and first shown light in 2005 by Germany's Kernkrach label, this self-titled collection was prepared by Medical Records in 2012 for a more comprehensive edition. Made almost exclusively on two synths and a drum-machine, everything on the album is loaded with their typically new-wave sense of humor and minimalism -- recorded on 4-track between the years straddling their debut, 1982-84.

"Featuring 13 tracks (including several never before released and a few reworked versions of tracks released in 2005), this will appeal to all lovers of minimal synth, electro-pop, flexi-pop, and the like. Standout tracks include the vocoder tinged “Discoqueen II”, the hyper-catchy “Ar Isch Schon”, and a slightly modified version of “He Sabine!”. New tracks include an interpretation of a German children’s song and “Macky Messer” featuring words by Kurt Weill." -Light in the Attic Records

"Despite their age, the pair created some superb synth wave. The plinky fast paced “Disco Queen II” gets the show on the road, super catchy analogue piece with vocoders and distant lyrics. The tracks have a distilled synth sound, simple in their construction but with fantastic melodies. Guyer’s Connection are much more synth pop than minimal, but there is some out and out silliness on here too; as in “Macky Messer” or “Hop Hop Hop.” Not everything is lightness, with depth arriving with the emotive tones of “Flow" . . . Ridiculously catchy and full to the brim with analogue goodness." -Igloo Magazine
