Arranged in 2018, Animals Remember Human is an ode to critically endangered birds and their habitats -- appropriately enough, with the National Audubon Society joining National Geographic and Cornell's Lab of Ornithology to declare it the year of the bird. Bringing together a trove of archival samples and lush field recordings, it's one of the most engrossing albums we've ever heard from the long-running German Army project. Sometimes haunting, sometimes weird, each track is its own vibrant little universe. Even more appropriately, in line with its deep themes of erasure and disappearance, the laptop used to make Animals Remember Human died just after the album was finished.
